Choose custom leather golf scorecard holders around the actual paper card and the way each holder will be carried and written on. Measure the card first, then compare usable interior space, fold direction, retention and pencil storage. A leather cover that cannot hold the intended card comfortably is the wrong format regardless of its appearance.
A scorecard holder and a yardage-book holder can share a similar shape while having different capacities. If the cover must carry both, supply both items for review. Do not treat an outside-cover measurement as a guaranteed maximum card size.
Three decisions that establish the right fit
Measure the contents
Record the card flat and folded, plus its thickness. Measure a yardage book separately if it needs to share the holder.
Test writing and retention
Insert the intended paper and pencil. Check the writing area, fold, retainers and how the cover closes when loaded.
Select the material
Identify the actual cover construction and finish. Review its appearance, care needs and decoration on a sample.
Scorecard, yardage book or combined holder?
| Intended contents | What to provide | Fit question |
|---|---|---|
| One folded scorecard | Finished card, fold direction and printed layout | Are all scoring areas accessible without removing the card? |
| Yardage book | Book dimensions, binding and thickness | Can pages turn and the loaded cover close naturally? |
| Card and book together | Both items in the intended arrangement | Do the retainers and fold accommodate the combined thickness? |
| Card plus pencil | Pencil length and diameter | Does the loop hold it without pressing into the writing surface? |
Manufacturer Winston Collection distinguishes scorecard and yardage-book formats by opening direction and interior arrangement. That is a useful design distinction, not a universal dimension standard. Use your course’s actual paper to decide which format is suitable.

A measurement brief that avoids common mistakes
- Measure the printed card. Record its full width and height, then measure it in the folded condition used during play.
- Mark the fold and writing direction. Show which edge opens and where the score boxes sit.
- Include thickness. A multi-page booklet occupies more fold space than one thin card.
- Measure accessories. Include the intended pencil and any additional card or notes pocket contents.
- Request usable interior dimensions. Distinguish the retaining area from seams, edges and the outside cover.
- Check a loaded sample. Confirm insertion, writing access, page movement and closure before finalizing the design.
For example, a card that is 20 × 15 cm when open and folds to 10 × 15 cm does not establish that a holder with a 10 × 15 cm outside cover will fit it. Seam allowance, edge clearance and the retainer occupy space. This is a measurement example only, not a universal scorecard size or production specification.
Compare PU and leather as complete constructions
| Selection point | PU-coated or leather-look option | Genuine-leather option |
|---|---|---|
| Material identification | Ask for coating, backing and finish | Ask for leather type, finish and thickness |
| Appearance | Review color and surface texture | Review finish and acceptable natural variation |
| Logo | Confirm compatibility with the chosen surface | Confirm depth, contrast and process on the selected finish |
| Care | Follow the approved cleaning and storage instructions | Use guidance for the actual leather and finish |
| Sample review | Fold, edges, lining and surface contact | Fold, edges, lining and surface contact |
“Leather-look” and genuine leather should not be used as interchangeable descriptions. The overall holder also includes lining, retainers, reinforcement and edge finishing. The material name alone does not establish lifespan, waterproofing or how well the cover supports writing.
Current PASSEN reference formats
The current scorecard holder listing offers two-tone PU and crazy-horse leather directions with different reference dimensions. Compare the material and format together rather than assuming one size applies to every color or version.
| Listed version | Reference dimensions | Confirm before selecting |
|---|---|---|
| Two-tone PU | Approximately 22 × 12 × 1 cm | Whether the measurement describes the closed cover and how much usable card space remains |
| Crazy-horse leather | Approximately 17.8 × 10.5 × 0.5 cm | The actual material/finish and fit with the intended folded card |
These are listing references, not guaranteed card capacities. Request a fitted-card view and confirm included accessories. A pencil or booklet shown in a photograph is not automatically part of the supplied unit.
Writing support, pencil loop and pocket comfort
Write on the loaded sample using the intended card and pencil. Check whether the writing surface is supported, whether raised seams or contents create bumps and whether elastic covers any boxes. Turn or unfold the card as you would during a round.
Fit and remove the pencil several times. It should remain accessible without forcing the loop or distorting the cover. Check the closed holder in the intended pocket or bag compartment; a sample that lies flat empty may feel bulky once a card, pencil and booklet are added.
If the design uses a closure, check it with all contents present. Avoid adding magnets, snaps or another feature simply because it looks useful in a mockup. Each should serve the chosen carrying and opening routine.
Plan the logo on the closed and open holder
Identify front, back, top and fold direction on the artwork proof. Keep the mark clear of seams, corners and retention features. Request feasibility for debossing, foil, print or a badge on the selected construction; no process should be promised for every material without review.

Check the logo at actual size, then inspect its position on a closed sample. Fine lettering and subtle tone-on-tone decoration need particular attention to readability. For personalized names, provide a checked list and agree on proofing and pack identification before production.
Care and packaging
Follow the instructions for the selected material and finish. Do not assume a cover makes the paper waterproof. If it becomes damp, use the recommended drying method rather than applying unapproved heat or cleaners.
Pack the holder so the fold and surface remain protected. Separate metal accessories that could rub the cover, and avoid forcing an insert around a loaded holder. Confirm whether the product ships empty or with the specified pencil or card, then keep that content list consistent across labels and quotations.
Approve the sample and quote the complete version
Record the material, open and closed dimensions, card fit, retention, writing support, pencil fit, edge finish, artwork and pack contents. Keep the final artwork revision with the approved sample. If the paper size or interior layout changes, recheck fit before repeating the order.
Standard PASSEN MOQ is 200 per SKU; logo, color or packaging customization starts at 500. Different SKUs do not combine to meet a minimum. Confirm custom dimensions, included accessories, sample terms, price and delivery timing for the exact version. For event distribution, connect this specification with the tournament gift bag plan.
Frequently asked questions
Are all golf scorecards the same size?
Do not assume a universal size. Measure the card used by the intended course and supply its fold direction.
Can a scorecard holder also carry a yardage book?
Only if the interior arrangement and loaded capacity suit both. Provide the actual book size and thickness for review.
Do the outside dimensions tell me which card will fit?
No. Seams, edges, retainers and the fold reduce usable space. Confirm interior clearance with a fitted sample.
Is PU the same as genuine leather?
No. Specify the cover construction accurately and review the selected material, finish and care instructions.
Is a pencil included?
Confirm the quotation’s contents. Check the pencil and loop together if a pencil is part of the order.
What should I send for a custom holder quote?
